New sermon series! John: Meeting the Risen Christ

Greetings Redeemer!

On Easter Sunday, we will begin a new sermon series called “Meeting the Risen Christ.”

In this series, we will study the closing chapter of the Gospel of John, where we find the risen Jesus meeting his disciples in all kinds of places of their need – sadness, fear, doubt, drift, and shame, to name a few. John saves the best for last in his Gospel, telling us that there is a lot more he could have said. In fact, there is not enough book space in the world to tell all there is to know about Jesus, but these things are given to us so that we may believe and have life in his name by believing. (John 20:30-31; 21:25) He is always full of grace, after Easter more than ever!

I adore Easter, and I want you to, as well. As great as Christmas is, Easter really is better. As Geerhaus Vos said, Easter is “the sea breeze from heaven filling the lungs of our souls. This is my absolute favorite time of year to celebrate and revel in our Lord’s resurrection and our own resurrection life together with him!

Easter is the happiest of mornings, turning every space into a place of hope, a place of looking for the resurrection of Christ to break out in our lives and in the world, even as he burst forth from the tomb on Easter morning. According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” (1 Peter 1:3)

As we journey through Holy Week, commemorating Christ’s arrest, trial, crucifixion, and death, it is good to remember that Sunday is a day of life. Thankfully, Easter is not just for a day, but for an eternity, a resurrection life and hope that begins now. Let us commit ourselves to living as Christ’s Easter people in an Easter world in which he will ultimately make all things new. I look forward to celebrating with you on Easter Sunday and throughout this season. Please invite friends and family to join you for all of our services this week!
