Worship at Redeemer

Your life is shaped by the end you live for. You are made in the image of what you desire.

Sunday Worship

We know visiting a new church can be a daunting prospect. We are excited that you are planning a visit and look forward to welcoming you! Here is what you can expect in a Sunday worship service at Redeemer.

Redeemer is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America. We are a church committed to reaching the city of San Antonio as well as South Texas with the ancient and transforming message of the Gospel.

Worship

Our worship services begin at 9:15 a.m. & 11 a.m. A typical worship service includes music and prayers of adoration, confession and thanksgiving to our God. This is followed by listening to Scripture read and preached, the weekly celebration of the sacrament of Communion, and the giving our tithes and offerings. Finally, we are sent out with the gracious embrace of our God to engage the world.

Sermons

Preaching at Redeemer is expositional, meaning that it seeks to proclaim and unfold the meaning and significance of the biblical text for the purpose of engaging the whole person. Sermons usually last about 25 minutes and are meant to show forth how God, through a particular passage of Scripture, reveals both our need of God’s grace and his provision of that grace in his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. In this way, the sermon seeks to be both Biblical and transformational. This is what we mean by the term Gospel-Driven…for if a sermon is not Gospel-Driven it is not biblical.

The Order of Worship

At our sanctuary doors, the ushers will hand you an Order of Worship. This is our bulletin, providing announcements and information on events at Redeemer, but it is also a guide to each Sunday’s worship service. In the Order of Worship, you will find Scripture for reflection before and during the service, the prayers we will join in together, our music for the morning, and the liturgy for communion, which is observed every week at Redeemer. You may view examples of our order of worship here.

About our worship style and music

Redeemer’s worship seeks to be characterized by two words: truth and vibrancy.

To value truth means Redeemer recognizes the significance of the long history of true and vibrant worship by God's people through the ages. For this reason, we seek to draw upon the rich resources of those who have gone before us by making use of ancient hymns, creeds and liturgical forms.

To value vibrancy means our worship seeks to be in our time and our place. Redeemer realizes that while connected to the church historic, we are present-day Christians. We must worship in present day San Antonio and its culture. As a result, we also use current musical styles and hymns arising in the present.

The emphasis on vibrancy also means our worship seeks to engage the whole person in the community of God's people. True worship always encompasses a meaningful dialogue between the congregation and God. God speaks and then we respond. The order of Redeemer's worship facilitates that dialogue and creates meaningful participation.
