The entire first floor is beginning to take shape.  The walls in the office and nursery have been framed and will be sheet rocked in the next few weeks.  By the beginning of the year they will have electric wires run and new air conditioning units installed.  The primary work on the first floor is in the sanctuary.  They are installing the steel structure which will hold the sculpted ceiling.  You can recall the ceiling features by looking back at the renderings we published this summer, they are located in the gallery.  Right now, the wood for the sanctuary is being fabricated off-site and will be brought in early in the New Year.  All of first floor work is deliberate and constructive, while the basement work is messy and destructive.  The demolition contractors will be in the building until the New Year.  They are tearing out every wall, shower, and restroom – completely destroying every remnant of the old YMCA and clearing the entire basement.  It feels like a huge space.  In order to get the rubble out, they have a telescoping crane which lowers a bucket through the pool room windows and gets filled up by a backhoe and small bulldozer…it’s a little boy’s dream to watch.

There are two other areas of note.  First, the front entry has received little attention at this point.  In January, you’ll likely see more work in demolishing the existing ramp and stair structure and pouring a new foundation for the entry.  Also, you’ll be able to see from the pictures that the pool has been covered over and will have a concrete floor poured in the coming weeks.  The work is going pretty smoothly and we are still looking at an April completion.  Please continue to pray for the work to progress and for the safety of the workers.  Also pray that even in our construction we may be a blessing to our city and give glory to God.
