Our King and Savior now draws near: Come let us adore him. I love these words from the Book of Common Prayer, for use in public worship this time of year, welcoming us into the hope of the Advent of Our Lord. Just writing these words down here for you makes me want to start singing: “O come let us adore him, Christ the Lord!” Truth be told, I did break out into the first verse of “O Come, All Ye Faithful” at my desk while writing this paragraph. We held our bi-annual Culture Conference in April, with our guest Dr. Brian Fikkert better equipping us to love our neighbors well in the face of material and spiritual poverty. This Sunday, August 18th, Redeemer will begin our fall sermon series “Mark: The Gospel of King Jesus.” The word “gospel,” meaning “good news,” has its roots both in the Old Testament and the Roman Empire. Redeemer is pleased to announce that Eric Arguello will join the RPC staff as Facilities Coordinator in July.
As a growing congregation blessed with a property encompassing more than a city block in downtown San Antonio, there is much to be done to maintain Redeemer’s facilities. This week, the Session had the privilege of sitting down with those who have most recently completed officer training at Redeemer and is pleased to announce their candidacy for office in the class of 2027. Redeemer is pleased to announce that Pablo Chavarria, who has been on the Redeemer staff since 2020 as Latin American Pastor Fellow, has been named RPC Director of Spanish-Speaking Ministries.
Pablo, his wife, Velia, and their daughter, Grace, originally came to Redeemer from Monterrey, Mexico in 2020 for what was envisioned as a two-year pastoral fellowship. But as their connection to San Antonio and Redeemer grew, Pablo says he and Velia began to feel drawn to a long-term ministry here.
