Jacob Tilton to join RPC as Director of Music Ministry
Redeemer is pleased to announce that Jacob Tilton will join the Redeemer staff in June as RPC Director of Music Ministry.
Jacob has served as music director at Fort Worth Presbyterian Church since 2006. He is a native of Sulphur, Louisiana and met his wife of 23 years, Kerrie, also a Louisiana native, when they were both college students at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Tiltons have three children: Emma, 20; Eli, 18; and Annalise, 16. Before moving to Texas, the family lived in Jackson, Mississippi, where Jacob served as music director at Trinity Presbyterian Church.
Jacob’s love of music began in 6th grade, when he started playing trombone in the school band. In high school, he began playing piano at church, and in college he began to feel a call to ministry.
“I realized then how much I love worship and using my musical gifts to serve the church,” he says. “What I love about music ministry is how amazing it is that God uses this particular part of creation to meet with his people and fill them with joy, longing, and hope.”
Jacob’s primary instruments are guitar and piano, but he is also proficient on the bass and trombone. He has experience in arranging and writing choral music, has ventured into hymn writing and recording and has produced several worship projects both as a solo artist and in collaboration with other musicians.
Interim Director of Music Ministry Matthew Peacock and his family will move to Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany in May. Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, Matthew has been serving regularly on the music team at Redeemer, and was hired as Interim Director of Music Ministry in September.
RPC Senior Pastor Tom Gibbs gave thanks for Matthew’s service during a year of change and uncertainty.
“We are so thankful for Matthew’s leadership and joy in serving Redeemer this year,” Gibbs says. “His willingness to use his talents at Redeemer during a very unusual year of worship and ministry has been an enormous blessing. In fact, all of those who have been part of Redeemer’s music ministry during this past year have made a vital contribution to Redeemer.”
Gibbs said Jacob Tilton’s hire is a significant step toward the long-term growth and expansion of Redeemer’s music ministry.
“After 15 months without a permanent director of music, we are thrilled to welcome Jacob and his family to Redeemer. We believe Jacob will be a strong leader for our music team as we continue to build our musical program, develop musical talent and imagine the future of the music ministry at Redeemer.”
Gibbs also expressed gratitude to the Music Ministry Search Committee, whose members labored for more than a year during this critical time.
Matthew Peacock’s last Sunday with the RPC music team will be May 9th. Jacob Tilton will officially begin his role on June 1st. Please be in prayer for the Peacock family as they transition to Germany. And please join us in welcoming, coming alongside and encouraging Jacob, Kerrie, and their children as they prepare for this big transition and join us here in San Antonio.
