Staff Update
Redeemer is pleased to announce that Dr. Kim Barton will join the staff as Ministries Coordinator. Current Ministries Coordinator Sarah Doerfler’s last day on the staff will be January 18th.
Kim spent most of her childhood in Connecticut, but her parents moved to Houston during her college years, and she attended medical school in Dallas. She and her husband, Dr. Paul Barton, a San Antonio native, met while in medical school. After Kim completed her residency in pediatrics and Paul completed his anesthesiology residency, the Bartons trained to serve as medical missionaries with Mission to the World, the world missions agency of the Presbyterian Church in America. The Barton family served in Ecuador for five years, then in Macedonia for a one-year term before returning to San Antonio in 2015. They have been members at Redeemer since 2017.
The Bartons live in Boerne and have four sons – Sam, 19; Nathan, 17; Josiah, 15; and Isaac, 13. The Barton family has been consistently involved in Redeemer’s outreach ministries, serving regularly at Strong Foundation, helping with lunches Redeemer hosts for The Christian Medical and Dental Association and serving as site leaders for Redeemer Serves the City. Paul and Kim also teach a kindergarten Christian Education class at Redeemer and serve with the Coffee Team.
Kim says she is excited to serve in a role supporting Redeemer’s ministry partnerships both in San Antonio and worldwide.
“I think Redeemer is in a unique place right now as we seek what God has for the church and I am excited to be able to help put feet to those dreams,” she says.
Sarah Doerfler joined the staff as Assistant to the Senior Pastor and Special Projects Coordinator in 2019, and stepped into the Ministries Coordinator role during the senior pastor transition in 2021. RPC Executive Director of Operations Jeremy Whitley expressed thanksgiving for Sarah’s service on the staff.
“Sarah has been a wonderful member of the Redeemer staff,” he says. “She works with a joy and exuberance that is contagious. We are especially thankful that, as we returned to a full program of ministry this past fall, she stepped into a new role. Her support was essential in helping us re-establish the full breadth of our congregational and mission programs.”
Kim’s first day on the staff will be January 18th. She will provide administrative support to RPC Associate Pastor of Mission and Culture Engagement Victor Martinez, helping facilitate connections with Redeemer’s city and world mission partners. RPC Membership Coordinator Lori Dante will take on new responsibilities related to hosting our membership class, Introduction to Redeemer, and RPC Sunday Morning Logistics Coordinator Erin Hurt will provide administrative support to Redeemer’s congregational events ministries.
Please join us in thanking Sarah Doerfler for her work and in welcoming Kim and encouraging her in her new role!
