Tips for using Kids' Sermon Notes

March 01 2016
March 01 2016

By

Parents,

We wanted to highlight the new “Sermon Notes” we have for kids. You’ll notice the formatting is different than what we had this fall, but similar to what we had before that. Our intention is to aid kids in focusing on the sermon (rather than merely distract or redirect attention). We wanted to give you three ways you can utilize this tool for your own interactions at home:

1)      Ask your children to take notes or draw pictures of what they heard during the sermon and then ask them about it at lunch. You could even “quiz” them.

2)      Ask them to listen intently and pick out words they don’t understand for you to look up and explain at home. Or ask if there was anything confusing about the sermon.*

3)      Talk about a particular song they liked. Talk about the lyrics and their meaning. Practice singing their favorite song during the week at breakfast or dinner!

*Tip: the Merriam-Webster app is a fun tool for home use for letting kids type in the word they want to look up!

We hope this will be a springboard for your family to go deeper and will help to facilitate good discussions!

For the Kingdom,

Sarah Beaugh
