Will You Serve in the Nursery
When you serve in the nursery, you are being entrusted with the most vulnerable members of our church family. This great honor and responsibility is given to all of us who are willing to serve in this way.
The church nursery is the first contact young families will have with Redeemer. Your friendly face and exceptional care can make a great first impression on those visiting our church. From firsthand experience, we knew Redeemer was a great fit for our family as our children had a peaceful experience in nursery and looked forward with anticipation to each Sunday.
Your service is essential for your own spiritual growth. You may have never looked at it this way, but a growing Christian is always a serving Christian. Jesus was known for putting others first, when you serve in the church nursery you are walking in his example.
Tony Kummer so aptly wrote:
We know that God is everywhere. “Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the LORD. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the LORD.” (Jeremiah 23:24) “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.” (Proverbs 15:3) No matter where we go – God is with us.
But did you know that God is back in the church nursery? “And Jesus took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.” (Mark 9:36-37) When you welcome a child in the name of Jesus you welcome Jesus himself. When we minister to children – God is with us.
The church nursery can be so much more than childcare. But it begins with an awareness of the presence of God with the little children. Serving in the nursery is not only a blessing you give to others, but a blessing you receive.
