New Sermon Series!

August 31, 2016
Rev. Dr. Tom Gibbs
That phrase is common enough across San Antonio, even with the onslaught of 21st century secularity. I’ve said it. You’ve said it too. But what do we mean? What is meant by those who confess this faith in Jesus Christ? It may not be immediately obvious, but the answer to that question is far from clear. Ever since the Enlightenment of the 17th century, Descartes’ bifurcation of the head and the heart has plagued humanity. It was Descarte who, seeking to determine what is irreducible about the self, declared “Cogito ergo sum” or “I think, ...

Sarah Beaugh
We at Redeemer have been called to care for our children and to honor the name of Christ. To this end, child protection policies have been developed to ensure a safe, loving environment where the Lord Jesus Christ is glorified and enjoyed by His people of all ages. We recognize that God has called us to exercise wisdom and prudence in our care for His children. It is our privilege to serve our King in this way. Starting on the first day of Christian Education classes, August 28th, children in our CE program (pre-K through 5thgrade) will be ...

Joy Unchained

June 06, 2016
Rev. Dr. Tom Gibbs
“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.” (Phil. 4:4) This summer’s sermons series will take us through Paul’s letter to the church at Philippi, a Roman colony about eight miles inland from the coastal community of Neapolis on the Aegean Sea. In Acts 16, we are given Luke’s account of Paul’s founding of this church, which became the first on European soil. Ten years later Paul was taken captive in Jerusalem on account of his proclamation of the Gospel (Acts 21:30ff) and he ultimately appealed to Rome to gain his freedom (Acts ...

Redeemer's Building In the News!

May 17, 2016
Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. Psalm 103:2 While it's hard to believe, May 25th marks the second anniversary of Redeemer's grand opening in our downtown location! As we hoped and prayed for, the last two years have been marked by rapid growth and a widening scope of ministry. How many of you have joined Redeemer during that time period? Bless the Lord! Looking back, the Lord's blessings were apparent in lots of ways. Among the most important of blessings though, were the team assembled to lead the project and ...

Easter's relevance: Self-reliance or God-reliance

March 22, 2016
As we journey towards the resurrection this Holy Week, it's important to acknowledge that this passage is not always easy. The pastel painted eggs of Easter belie the difficult burdens we bear, and which will persist long after Easter passes. Their presence is not the only thing that's hard either. What's their purpose? If you're like me, you want to know what God is up to in the midst of the struggles. No matter how special Easter is, sometimes it's hard not to ask, "God, why am I going through this?" Now, I know there are silver-tongued, ...

Ways to Celebrate Lent and Easter with your Children

March 16, 2016
Sarah Beaugh
As a new mom, I was confounded on ways to make holidays more meaningful for my children. I read articles, listened to speakers, and read blogs on projects, crafts, and activities to do… and I just felt overwhelmed. What I wish I could go back and tell my beleaguered self is this: Don’t get bogged down with your own shortcomings or imperfections. Just start somewhere. Baby steps. Over the course of time, we have added in things, taken out others that didn’t fit our family, and in the end, we have kiddos that look forward to holidays and are ...

Tips for using Kids' Sermon Notes

March 01, 2016
Sarah Beaugh
Parents, We wanted to highlight the new “Sermon Notes” we have for kids. You’ll notice the formatting is different than what we had this fall, but similar to what we had before that. Our intention is to aid kids in focusing on the sermon (rather than merely distract or redirect attention). We wanted to give you three ways you can utilize this tool for your own interactions at home: 1) Ask your children to take notes or draw pictures of what they heard during the sermon and then ask them about it at lunch. You could even “quiz” them. 2) ...

February 08, 2016
Benjie Slaton
At noon on March 1, 2017 Redeemer invites you to attend its Ash Wednesday Worship Service. For many of you this is an unfamiliar aspect of Christian worship. For that reason, I wanted to repost a short explanation on Ash Wednesday from Tom Gibbs that was originally posted in 2015. We hope to see you there! The nursery will be open for children up to the age of four during the service.     During this service and for those desiring, Redeemer will mark worshippers with ashes in the sign of the cross. I recognize that for some of our ...

Communicants Class Coming January 16th

January 07, 2016
Sarah Beaugh
On Saturday, January 16th, the Redeemer Children’s Ministry will host our next Communicants Class. You can sign up and find out more information HERE. Please direct any questions you may have to Sarah Beaugh (sarah@redeemersa.org). One of the questions we often receive from folks who are new to Redeemer is about when and how children begin taking communion. It’s a great question! In our Presbyterian and Reformed tradition, we baptize children, as well as professing adults, as a sign of their entry into God’s covenant community, the ...

2015 End-of-Year Giving Update

November 15, 2015
Rev. Dr. Tom Gibbs
Dear Members and Friends, As 2015 comes to a close, I find myself asking, “How has another year passed so quickly?” I guess the old adage is true: “Time flies when you’re having fun!” Just this past week at our most recent Newcomers Dessert, I was especially reminded of God’s rich blessings upon Redeemer. My wife and I host these desserts about six times a year and it is always fascinating to hear the stories of those God is bringing to Redeemer and exciting to invite into Redeemer’s story those who attend. As a congregation gathered in ...
