Greetings, Redeemer families!

The world around us has drastically changed over the last several months and many of us feel overwhelmed as we attempt to establish a “new normal.” At the same time, we know that our families want to put practices in place that will help our children grow up in their faith. Redeemer Children’s Ministries believes this is the perfect time to establish habits of family worship. To help you in that endeavor, we have worked hard over the past month to develop tools to help you shape the spiritual climate in your families for this season and for generations to come!

This fall, Redeemer Children’s Ministries will expand what we offer to families online. Each week, we will release a Children’s Worship Video. Using this video, your child will be able to sing along with songs led by members of our church, learn their New City Catechism question, work on Scripture memory, and hear a lesson from the Bible. These lessons will be adapted from the Teach Me to Worship curriculum, a publication of PCA Discipleship Ministries, which is our Training in the Pews curriculum. New videos will be posted at redeemersa.org/Teach every Sunday morning along with the full Teach Me to Worship curriculum. Full-length videos will launch on September 6th, but in the meantime, we will post two New City Catechism-only videos on August 23rd and August 30th for you to use as you embark on the 2020-2021 catechism schedule with us.

To keep up with videos, resources and other fun activities, we also invite you to join our new private Facebook group, Redeemer Children’s Ministry San Antonio. Send us a request and we will add you to the group!

We believe that spiritual discipleship begins in the home, but we also recognize the opportunity we have as a church to help in this difficult season. We would encourage you to play the Children’s Worship Video after church on Sunday, while you are making dinner, or as a bedtime ritual; as often as you like! We even hope to record children from our ministry reciting catechism questions on the video so that you can see each other!

This week, we have also mailed out a few additional resources that you can use which will work seamlessly with this video curriculum. In a packet which should reach your homes this week, we have included:

  • The New City Catechism schedule for this year, and a copy of the New City Catechism. We also recommend the New City Catechism app, which can be downloaded for free and has music for all 52 catechism questions.
  • A Teach Me to Worship CD with songs we will sing in our videos.
  • A student pamphlet with ideas for activities and further growth that connect to the lessons.
  • A catechism memorization game board — put a sticker on your board for each question your child memorizes. When you reach ten stickers, email me and I will send your child a prize!

These materials are also available to be downloaded at redeemersa.org/Teach. The Redeemer Children’s Bulletin, which is intended for use during the worship service, will still be available online as well.

This is a difficult season, and in such seasons it is more important than ever that we take an active role in reorienting our hearts and minds to the eternal truths of Scripture. We hope that this plan will be a great help to you as you engage your children in family worship. My prayer is that those who are engaged in strong, regular family worship will grow. And those who have struggled to engage in family worship will learn how and be encouraged to start worshiping as a family regularly.

We are praying for you and we are here for you. Please contact me (melanie@redeemersa.org) with any questions!
